The Critical Response Process is a step-by-step method of giving and receiving feedback on anything from pottery to poetry to PhD theses.

Some bad moments of feedback in my life:

The loudest (man) in the room talks a lot about whatever he happens to be thinking about at the time.

The conversation gets off topic and I’m left wondering if my work is interesting to anyone.

Everyone excitedly re-designs my work until I can’t claim any of it anymore.

Total, horrific silence. I begin talking just to feel comfortable. I gain nothing.

Someone uses a lot of words I don’t know and now I feel like I don’t belong in the room anymore.

Everyone misunderstands my point and I’m left trying to defend my choices.

I am a certified practitioner and teacher of the Critical Response Process, which was originally conceived by my friend and mentor, Liz Lerman.

I have taught CRP to visual art students at Arizona State University, security personnel at Google, theatre teachers at the Michael Chekhov Institute, and many many others.
